Victor Ice Rink Roof
━ THE DETAILS
The Challenge
Victor Ice Rink is a well-loved community gathering place for residents of all ages. Historically, the rink was open to the elements, leaving it exposed to rapidly changing high-country weather conditions, particularly during Colorado’s winter season. The project involved adding a steel roof structure to enclose the rink; however, installation was challenging due to the need to carefully place and secure steel beams in tight clearances above the existing ice rink floor structure while maintaining safety, alignment, and protection of the active facility below.
The Solution
The project team developed a carefully phased construction plan to safely install the new steel roof structure over the existing ice rink while minimizing disruption to the facility. Detailed coordination and layout verification were performed prior to installation to ensure precise placement of steel members within the tight working clearances above the rink surface. Erection sequencing was planned to maintain stability and control throughout the build, with close attention to protecting the existing ice surface and underlying structure. Through strategic staging, precise steel placement, and continuous field coordination, the team successfully completed the roof installation, transforming the open-air rink into a protected, year-round community asset while preserving its existing operations and character.
